How I Get Ready For Events

Miami Swim Week

This week I will be going to my very first swim week in Miami, Florida. I am very excited to be attending this event where I will get to see all of the latest designs for swim wear! But like any and every event, there is a list of things I need to do to feel and look my best.

Here’s what I do to get ready for a big event in one week:

Day One – Hydrate:

It’s very important to stay hydrated on the daily. Though the thought of drinking water throughout the day can easily slip my mind, I try to stay super hydrated for events. Normally I like to start my mornings with a warm glass of water and a lemon slice. To keep things interesting, I try to switch it up by either drinking sparkling water, coconut water, or infused water. Mint with lemon and oranges with blueberries are my favorite infused water combos.  

I like to drink lots of water at least one week, if not two weeks before an event. Staying hydrated keeps my skin clear and cleans my body of toxins. (It’s definitely important to stay hydrated in this Miami heat)

Day Two – Workout:

A couple of weeks before an event I like to really tune in on my workouts so that I can feel like my best self. I like to stick to cardio workouts (running, kickboxing, and circuit workouts) or do resistance training and some weights. Another favorite of mine is doing hot yoga or hot pilates to really help me connect with my body. I usually switch up workouts every couple of days and allow some rest time in between.
Day Three – Skincare:

For my skincare routine, I like to schedule a facial a few days before the event as well as facial waxing or threading. If I don’t have the time or money to get a facial I like to give myself an at–home facial treatment. I do a steaming to open up my pores and an extracting to clean them out. I also like to make my own face mask mixture to brighten my skin, using turmeric, lemon juice and honey. Lately I’ve been using the “Don’t Look At Me” face mask from Lush. I love how it makes my skin feel and look. Bonus: it smells like Fruit Loops, yummy!

If I notice a pimple showing up on my face I do a quick spot treatment by placing a warm and damp washcloth on the spot, and dabbing on some tea tree oil. (Be sure to use the tea tree oil at night because it can cause skin sensitivity in the sun.)

As far as skincare for the rest of my body, I like to use a body scrub to remove dead skin cells and leave my skin looking fresh and feeling smooth (I scrub about two times a week, once at the beginning of the week and then again a couple of days before the event). Currently I am using Lush’s “Cup O’Coffee face and body mask” which also smells good and wakes up my skin! Then to keep my skin hydrated I use a body butter — or body oil. When I shave my legs I use the EOS shaving cream which leaves my legs feeling super smooth!

Day Four -Meditation:

Because the days leading up to a big event can be very stressful, I bump up my daily ten minute meditation to twenty minutes ( if time allows). This just helps me to stop, unwind, and relax for a few minutes out of my day.

Day Five – Teeth Whitening:

A couple of days before an event I whiten my teeth so I can have pretty pearly whites. I brush my teeth daily with the Crest whitening toothpaste. I’m still waiting to get my hands on an Express Smile Teeth Whitening kit, but until then I use the teeth whitening strips.

Day Six – Do A Test Run:

If not the day before, I like to do a test run of the hair and makeup at least a couple of days before an event, especially if I’m trying a fun new hairstyle or makeup look. This way I can work out any kinks and avoid any stress and devastation while getting ready the day of the event.  

Day Seven –  The Big Day:

The day of the event has arrived! I start my day with a big healthy breakfast and make sure to get plenty of sleep the night before. I continue drinking lots of water and calm any nerves I may have with some meditation. I get dressed, do my hair and makeup, and I’m ready to go!
